BookCliff Vineyards – Palisade, Colorado
When looking at Colorado tourism you probably hadn’t thought about visiting wineries and vineyards. The opportunity to visit the states wineries is just a wonderful way to see the beauty of the area around the Colorado River where the weather and the soil are ideal for growing the grapes used to make Colorado wines. The BookCliff Vineyard and Winery are located in the area and produce a wide variety of truly Colorado wine.
The community of Palisade is the home to the vineyard while the winery and tasting room are located in Boulder, just a short distance away. The winery and tasting room are located in the home of the owners, John Garlich and Ulla Merz. This married couple began their vineyard in 1999 and chose to put the winery in the basement of their home after passing all the state requirements for the location.
Prohibition has caused the area to be uprooted and replanted with orchards after years of growing grapes on the land. Now the area is once again becoming a wine center for the state.
