My Favorite Scallop Recipes

Have you ever tried to bake any kind of seafood? There are several different types of seafood that are quite delicious when baked instead of the usual frying that most people do.

Baked sea scallops is one of those dishes. When you fry the scallops you get a nice crusty outside and a soft moist center. But this can be calorific and at times if you leave them in the oil too long, they get dried out. Baking them instead will make them come out the way they should be done. Rather than serve them as as the usual side dish for other seafood, consider serving them to the family as a delicious baked entree.

Plus it’s alot healthier than the oil. Take some time to learn how to bake scallops and you won’t be dissappointed when you take that first bite. Bay scallops are small, round, sweet and delicious seafood. They are usually white or yellowish in color. I believe they turn a yellowish if they have sat too long, because they are usually white. They are made so many different ways. You can put them in salads or fry them up or even saute them. There are larger scallops (sea scallops), but they are usually 4-5 times bigger and are not as versatile as these little gems.

Also, the price difference at the grocery store is significan’t. Expect to pay just under ten dollars a pound for sea scallops while the same amount of bay scallops will run anywhere from three to seven dollars. This is a huge savings and you still reap the rewards of a great tasting and good for you food item. So get some and really enjoy a treat from the ocean. We are taking a vacation this summer, and I’m looking for a place where my son can see sea scallops. He might not like sea scallops after seeing them alive, so I am worried, but we will see how it happens.

Does anybody know of aquariums or touch tanks where we can view these aquatic creatures? We expect to travel within America and I would want to teach my son about these water critters, however, I am not sure where to begin. All I really know about scallops is that they have a lot of blue, glowing eyes. But then, I have only seen a picture of sea scallops once and it was in an old issue of the National Georaphic magazine. Does anybody have any good websites about the habitats or habits of live sea scallops? It is not always easy to find what you are looking for online. When I did my search for information on sea scallops, a lot of the websites that came up were most definitely not family-friendly.
